SELF CARE PARENTING SEMINAR- By Duygu Balan
Berkeley Turkish School is excited to host this parenting workshop by Duygu Balan.
Upon completion of the seminar, participants will have:
1- Learned concepts and value of implementing self care in day to day activities
2-Identified current coping skills and be able to assess effectiveness of their personal techniques
3- Developed techniques to create room for self care in their lives
4-Create an individualized self care plan
About DUYGU BALAN
Duygu Balan, LPCC, MS Ed is the founder of Come As You Are Therapy in the Bay
Area. She currently offers individual, group and couples therapy, as well as
parenting coaching and mother’s groups. Duygu was born and raised in Germany
and then lived in Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated Robert College in 1998, completed
her BA in Psychology at Istanbul Bilgi University in 2002 and obtained her first
Masters in Education in School Counseling and her second Masters in Mental Health
Counseling at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY in 2005.
Duygu has extensive experience providing care to those along the continuum of the
human journey. She has worked as a therapist at Albany’s number one Employee
Assistance Program (EAP). She dedicated numerous years assisting the community
with her outreach and counseling of the homeless, mentally ill, and substance using
populations on the margins of society. She has provided counseling and emotional
support to individuals at the clinics connected to the university hospital of
Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx.
Duygu incorporates an existential, humanistic and client centered approach and
when working with parents utilizes the positive discipline model. She believes in
the connection of mind, body and sprit and uses a holistic treatment approach that
combines both western therapeutic techniques with ancient healing practices.
Duygu has authored a chapter in the best selling “Big Book of Emergency
Department Psychiatry,” and provides seminars and workshops.
